OpenSAGA increases support for the IKS project

As the third company overall QuinScape GmbH – the leading force behind the OpenSAGA project – signed a contract with the IKS project.

IKS – Interactive Knowledge Stack is an Integrating Project part-funded by the European Commission. It started in January 2009 and will provide an open source technology platform for semantically enhanced content management systems.

The IKS project provides two major tools which allow to integrate semantic technologies into existing systems in an efficient way:

  • The FISE engine allows to apply semantic technologies to existing structured or unstructured content. Examples are the automatic addition of map links, linking to additional information material concerning specialized topics or explanations for abbreviations.
  • The semantic editor (based on or inspired by the Aloha editor of Gentics) allows editors and content managers to manually verify the results of automated semantic enrichment. Additionally they can provide further information to the content and fix incorrect automated classifications.

This powerful toolset provides an optimal means to start using semantic technologies. The areas of applications are enormous: starting with automatic knowledge enrichment of basic content up to process optimizations due to automated routing of requests to the responsible experts there are almost no limits in how semantic technologies can help to save time and money.
